With a focus on the possible expansion and diversification of the existing tourism offer, the implemented feasibility study provided in-depth analysis of the Shirak region’s potential to develop winter tourism. The study provided analysis of general tourism trends, market potential and developments, local, regional and international competition, existing tourism facilities and offers, regional and national development strategies, plans and initiatives, regional public and private development and investment plans, local and regional labor markets, legal framework conditions, sector coordination and general accessibility. Based on this analysis the report provided recommendations on type of winter tourism product and how to develop it in Shirak region.
Description of actual services provided:
Within the project Ameria conducted meetings and interviews with sector stakeholders at central and regional levels, as well as visits the selected destinations in Shirak region to collect necessary information. Particularly, the information on trends and potential of Sirak region tourism sector, offered tourism products and services, source markets and regions strategic positioning. Key segments and characteristics of tourists looking for winter tourism activities were also analyzed. Additionally, the international and domestic competition was considered to identify competitive positioning of the region. Final report developed within the project addressed also such issues as investments required and economic efficiency of winter tourism activities. At the end of the project special workshop was organized to present results of the study.
